Whenever there is a discussion post due, 1 week in advance you’ll be notified that the prompt is up on our group. You’ll be able to reply in that thread both to the initial prompt and to your classmates. On this page is also an archive of the discussion prompts throughout the semester.
Discussion Posts are graded according to the below rubric:
For the discussion posts, students will post their individual reply for a potential 8 points, and respond to one classmate’s discussion post, for a potential 2 points per response (10 points total per discussion).
Response to Prompt
For 8 Points:
- Reply to prompt by due date
- Post a substantial response that responds to the prompt and incorporates material from that week’s readings and lectures. You may include follow up questions, challenge ideas proposed in the prompt, bring in relevant comparative material from past weeks, etc.
- Post was constructive and collegial
For 6 Points:
- Reply to prompt by due date
- Post responds to the prompt
- Post is substantial but does not incorporate information from that week’s lectures.
- Post was constructive and collegial
To earn 4 points, the student
- Reply to prompt by due date
- Post does not respond to the prompt
- Post was constructive and collegial
To earn 0 points, the student
- Post was not submitted by due date
- Post was constructive and collegial
Responses to Classmate’s Posting
To earn the full 2 points for a response to a classmate, the student
- Post a response to a classmate by due date
- Post responds to classmate’s ideas and observations substantially, such as asking follow up questions, suggesting additional or perhaps conflicting evidence. The post should move the conversation forward.
- Post was constructive and collegial
For 1 Point:
- Post a response to a classmate by due date
- Post provides evidence that the student has read the classmate’s posting, but does not move the conversation forward. (For example, “I agree!” is not a substantial reply. Say why you agree)
- Post was constructive and collegial
To earn 0 points for a response to a classmate, the student
- Post was not submitted by due date
- Post was not expressed in a collegial manner
